The Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration has just submitted to the Ministry of Construction a detailed plan for the development of land and waters of Thua Thien Hue seaport for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Container cargo through the port is still low
Statistics show that in 2020, goods through Thua Thien Hue seaport will reach 2.76 million tons. In 2024, goods through Thua Thien Hue seaport will reach 7.71 million tons.
Goods passing through the port are mainly dry and bulk cargo, accounting for 97.9% (7.55 million tons), liquid cargo about 2% (0.11 million tons) and container cargo accounting for a very small amount through the port. The average growth rate of goods in the period 2020 - 2024 is 29.3%/year.
The average growth rate of goods at Thua Thien - Hue seaport in the period of 2020 - 2024 is 29.3%/year.
Also in this period, the number of passengers through Thua Thien Hue seaport grew by 1.6%. The number of ships grew by 13.4%. The seaport has received general cargo ships with a tonnage of up to 65,000 tons and passenger ships of up to 168,666 GT.
Up to now, Thua Thien Hue seaport has 6 wharves with a total length of about 1,226 m (excluding other ports). The area has 2 public navigable channels including Chan May fairway which has been announced to be put into use with a length of 3.1 km and a width of 150m. Thuan An fairway has a length of 5.7 km and a width of 60m.
According to the assessment of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration, over the past time, the investment management at Thua Thien Hue seaport has basically complied with the approved planning on ship size and port scale. The ports have basically met the volume of goods through seaports, in line with the growth rate over the years.
Solutions to improve the efficiency of seaport infrastructure exploitation in the region have also been well promoted, contributing positively to attracting loading and unloading goods in the Hue area, increasing the ability to receive ships of increasing tonnage. At the same time, the inspection and supervision of loads and proper exploitation of wharf functions, compliance with regulations on maintenance, fire and explosion prevention, and prevention of environmental pollution are always strengthened and effectively implemented.
Not to mention, the coordination between specialized state management agencies at seaports and stakeholders to make plans for dispatching vessels in and out of seaports is carried out reasonably, adjusting traffic flow on the fairway while helping to significantly reduce the waiting time for ships and ensure safety. maritime security.
However, there are still limitations in the development of maritime activities at Thua Thien Hue seaport. One of them is the limitation of connecting traffic, lack of inland ports.
Need more than 14,000 billion VND to invest in seaport infrastructure development According to the draft plan, the goal is that by 2030, Thua Thien Hue seaport will meet the throughput of goods from 13.6 million tons to 20.3 million tons (of which container cargo is from 0.03 million TEU to 0.04 million TEU). The number of passengers passed from 276.1 thousand to 285 thousand passengers.
The area will have a total of 10 ports, including 19-25 wharves with a total length of 4,725 m to 6,125 m (excluding other ports). With a vision to 2050, seaports will meet the volume of goods with an average growth rate of about 3.6%/year to 4.5%/year.
Particularly, Chan May wharf area is oriented to have 7 ports, including 3 container, aggregate and bulk cargo wharves with a total length of 820 m, receiving ship sizes of up to 70,000 tons (aggregated, bulky), 4,000 TEU or larger when eligible.
The total land use demand according to the plan by 2030 is about 214.32 hectares (excluding areas for development of industrial parks and logistics,... attached to the port). The total demand for water surface use is about 11,327 hectares (including the area of other water areas within the scope of management without the arrangement of marine works).
By 2030, the investment capital demand for the seaport system will be about 14,050 billion VND, including investment capital for maritime infrastructure of about 1,260 billion VND and investment capital demand for the port of about 12,790 billion VND
